Friday 27th October 2006: Erskine's Lorraine Morrow and Tricia
Davidson are National Winners
|
On
Monday 16th October, RLCGA's Trish Davidson and
Lorraine Morrow (Erskine) played at the Grand Final of the
Amateur Lady Golfer Summer Knock Out Pairs competition at the
Belfry. Throughout the summer they played 4 rounds against pairs from
clubs around the West of Scotland (Vale of Leven, Troon Welbeck,
Bearsden and Southerness), after 4 victories they were the regional
winners! This resulted in a trip to the Grand final at the
Belfry played over the
Derby course.
On the Sunday they played a practice round and on Monday the
main competition. They were competing against 12 other pairs and they
knew that they needed to play their best to be in with a chance. The
format was betterball stableford (same as the knockout rounds) with full
handicap (3/4 previously) and it suited their game perfectly – scoring
45 points!
Lorraine also won a prize for being nearest the pin at the 3rd
There are more pictures and details of the event in
the
Amateur Lady Golfer Website
WELL
DONE TO YOU BOTH ----- I THINK I MENTIONED THE PAIR OF YOU IN THE

Section as stars of the future and I'm delighted that my prediction
is coming true !! |

Friday 13th October 2006: Gillian ends her season off with another win
|
 |
The final of the County Rosebowl
was played today over Haggs Castle Golf Course
between your webmaster Carol Fell (Ranfurly Castle) and County
Team member Gillian McGinlay (Cochrane Castle).
In what can only be described as wonderful over head conditions
but extremely heavy underfoot Gillian was out in 38 to Carol's 43
and was 1 up at the turn.
|
Gillian then had
a birdie 2 at the short 11th to Carol's par 3 to go 2 up. Carol then had
a birdie at the 12th to go to 1 down, halved the 13th in par and then
with her stroke at the 14th got it back to all square. Gillian then won
the 15th with a par and Carol got it back to square with a good putt and
a stroke at the 16th.
Gillian got a 4 at the 17th against Carol's 5 to go 1 up and with a
halved hole in 5 at the 18th gave Gillian victory by 1 hole
Gillian had to give Carol 6 shots and as Carol said at least I used them
ok --- that is 3 halves and 3 wins.
Thanks go to Beth who refereed the match and despite
NO SUPPORTERS we had a
lovely day.
Elizabeth Fazzi (Captain of Haggs Castle) presented the Trophy
to Gillian at the end of the day Thanks go to Haggs Castle for the courtesy of the
course and to Captain Elizabeth who bought us drinks at the end of our
round.

Tuesday 10th October 2006: Ranfurly Castle' Lady Captain's Team are
the National Winners
|
 |
RLCGA
member Rosemary Reedie who is Captain of Ranfurly
Castle with her team consisting of RLCGA members Mary Craig,
Anne Robinson and Sarah Kirby have just won the National finals of the
Captains Team Trophy at the De Vere Carden Park Golf resort
near Chester yesterday with a grand stableford total of 79
points --- 7 points ahead of their nearest rivals (2 scores out of the 4
to count) The Mens Captains Team winners had a 77 points
Report sent by Rosemary :
The competition was run by an Alan
Clark of "Golf Management Ltd. I think the team from Essex was
2nd and a team from Cornwall were 3rd. The competition has been going
since about mid 90's so we are not the 1st winners ever but he
said we were the 1st winners from Scotland. The Scottish men from
Esporta Dougalston (Milngavie) were
2nd to a Welsh team.
We did not win any big prizes. A nice
holdall and skip each and much more important a trophy (a cut glass vase
with a plinth). I have put the vase on the window sill in the mixed
lounge and taken the plinth to get engraved. We also got a trophy for
winning the regional event. I have to say we are all very chuffed! (in
case you didn't guess when we spoke to you on the phone last night when
we were on our way home!) We "gelled " very well and had 42pts in 1st
nine and 37 in 2nd nine although we thought we might have blown it on
16th and 17th holes with only 1pt on each hole between us. I think we
were getting tired but pars on the 18th and 4pts restored our spirits.
The organiser got a photo taken but I think he might put it on his web
site don't know)
Thanks for the story Rosemary and click on the link for details of
the tournament -- still waiting for the update for 2006.

Tuesday 3rd October 2006: Kate Hits The High Points In North
Carolina and Click on the Junior News Section for up to date News
|
RLCGA
County Team member Kate O’Sullivan, pictured left,
lived up to the name of her American university – High Point in North
Carolina – with a fourth place finish on level par 144 in the Great
Smokies Intercollegiate women’s golf tournament at
Waynesville County Club
in North Carolina.
Kate, starting her final college year in America, had rounds of 74 and
70. The second round, which included two birdies and an eagle, was her
lowest ever score in any competition either in the States or back home
in Scotland.
It was also her lowest ever 36-hole total and her fifth top-five
finish in the United States.Report sent to this website by : Brian
Morgan - Waynesville, NC
Senior Kate O'Sullivan led the way for High Point University (HPU)
shooting a two-under-par 70 on Sunday to finish in fourth-place
(even-par 144) in the individual competition.
We played much better on Sunday," said HPU head coach Julie Streng.. I
was very proud of Kate's performance. This is probably the
best finish she's had in a very talented individual field."
Kate matched her career low round on Sunday carding two birdies
and an eagle on her way to the sub-par finish. It marked her fifth
career Top Five showing.
High Point, with nobody to give Kate O’Sullivan strong support, finished
16th of the 23 competing teams on 622.
LEADING INDIVIDUALS
140 Staci Lynch (Austin Peay State) 71 69.
142 Olivia Higgins (Charleston Southern) 74 68.
143 Desiree Karlsson (Western Carolina) 72 71.
144 Kate O’Sullivan (High Point) 74 70.
Great play -- Kate and well done on a terrific achievement
